MEN'S CLOTHING IN TODAYS WORLD MAKES A FASHION STATEMENT

Fashion is not something exclusive to women in todays world.

Men have long been making an impact on the country with their own fashion sense.  With the advent of modernization, Indian garments are no longer unstitched pieces of fabric.

The ready-made garment industry in India has grown astronomically, with sales of Men's clothing almost equaling that of women's attire.  Indian men have found a new appreciation for modern trends and designs in their clothes.

Men's clothing boutiques are springing up everywhere and new brand names are introduced every season.  The remarkable growth in Men's clothing has been attributed to foreign influence, the Indian film scene and an increase in trained designers and fashion houses.  Indian men have definitely become more fashion conscious. Included in this fashion scene is a renewed interest in the splendor of ancient eras, such as the times of the Maharajas and the Mughal emperors.

Items such as the traditional Sherwani, the Jodhpuri coat, the Nehru jacket and the Kurta Churidar give fierce competition to the more western-styled suits and tuxedos.  For evening wear, the Sherwani can be teamed with Churidars or Aligarh pants, made from richly colored brocade.  Casual wear for the Indian male usually consists of a Kurta and Churidar  made from lightweight cotton, polyester or silk.  The Kurta shirt can be either collarless or banded.  Moving from daytime to evening wear is aided by the addition of a Bundi, a long version of a western waistcoat. There are men's shops that cater exclusively to the fashion requirements of the Indian male.  Color preferences have changed, too.  In addition to muted and dark colors, Indian men are demanding purple, pink and mint green.  The fastest selling western garments are the shirt, trouser and suit, with shirts attracting the most manufacturers in the business.  The growth in Indian Men's Apparel has lured such interrnational brands as Benetton, Wrangler, Park Avenue and Haggar.  Price is not a deciding factor.  Today's Indian man demands style, not discounts.  For the Indian male, fashion definitely has a better image.
